LEARN ABOUT WINE

The world of wine can sometimes feel rather overwhelming. With countless regions, grape varieties, styles and vintages to choose from, even something as simple as selecting a bottle from a restaurant wine list can feel more complicated than it should.

At the wine space, we believe learning about wine should be enjoyable, engaging and, above all, useful. Our guided wine sessions are designed to give you the knowledge and confidence to enjoy wine on your own terms. Perhaps you'd simply like to choose a better bottle in a shop, feel more confident navigating a restaurant wine list, understand what you already like, or broaden your horizons and discover new wines. Whatever your starting point, each session is tailored to your interests and level of knowledge. Sessions are online and typically last one to two hours. For sessions involving wine tasting, we will send you a suggested list of wines in advance and tailored to what is readily available in your location. Choose from our suggested themes — including basic wine knowledge, grape varieties, wine regions, sparkling wines and tasting techniques — or ask us to create something completely bespoke for you. You can explore some of our sample session topics below. Prices start from £120 for a one-hour session for one or two people. Please contact us for prices for longer sessions, groups or a completely bespoke experience.

Sample Sessions

Wine 101

A popular beginner session that combines a bit of viticulture, winemaking process and the basics of wine and grape varieties. The session is 2 hours long and we will taste a mix of sparkling, white and red in famous grape varieties.

Know your Grapes Series

An ideal way to start your wine journey is to know the widely grown grapes and their characteristics. We start with the noble grape varieties and explore some regional ones too.

Session 1 - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Syrah
Session 2 - Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo
Session 3 - Riesling, Merlot, Sangiovese

Sparkling Wines

From Champagne, Prosecco and Cava to lesser known Franciacorta and Asti wines, learn about the techniques and method of making different sparkling wines and taste some well known ones to understand what sets them apart.

Beautiful Blends

In this session, we will explore the best blended wines of the world like Bordeaux, Rhone Valley and Super Tuscans. What makes them work? Why do those grapes go well together?

Navigating the Restaurant Wine List

We understand that the wine list at many restaurants can be intimidating. Equally stressful is talking to the sommelier and nodding understandingly to the confusing terminology thrown at you. In this course, we demystify the restaurant winelist and provide expert tips on how to order like a pro!

Wine-Food Pairings

Unline many other drinks, wine is best enjoyed with food and when you have the right wine for the right food, they truly complement each other and make it so much more enjoyable. In this session, you will learn the basics of food and wine pairing: the different tastes and the acidity/tannins in wine that complement them.
